Preparing Siblings for Baby

If this is not your first baby then you are probably freaking out.... Not about giving birth, but, about making sure big brother or big sister is ready for their world to be rocked!

I was SO scared to bring another baby into this world.  How would my son react?  Would he be jealous?  Would he like his new sister?  And I am not going to lie...how could I possibly love another baby as much as I love him??

These emotions are all normal.
I started preparing my son as soon as I could.
We started talking about how mommy had a baby in her belly once I hit 13 weeks.  We bought him a baby doll and practiced holding the baby nicely.  Whenever we saw a new baby, I would tell him that he was going to get a new baby.  Lucky for us, my niece was also born a year (almost to the date) before our baby girl came along so big brother-to-be got lots of practice loving on a baby....and he did good!

On top of that, we also had our son come to several of the doctor's appointments so he could hear baby's heart beat and see baby on the ultra sound.  (The ultra sound technician was so sweet to even give our son his very own picture of his sister-to-be.)

In preparation for the birth, we had our son pick out a present for his new sister and SHE 'picked' out a present to give him in the hospital.

By the end of my pregnancy I was a hot mess...as in, I. Could. Not. Move.  Therefore, my son spent a lot of time playing on his own and watching TV.   I felt awful!!  BUT, it was great practice for him because shortly, mommy would not get to play with him all of the time and he would have to entertain himself.

No matter how you do it...preparing your big brother/sister for baby is not easy...but sibling love is SO worth it!!
