Time To Push!

It's time!!  You have been waiting 9...err 10 months for this!
Finally, all the anticipation has led to this moment.
Soon, your achy back and swollen feet will a distant memory.

Your labor may have started on its own or you may have had to be induced.  However it happened...now is the time.

Lets chat for a few minutes about the funny (and real) things that happened to me and some friends in the weeks leading up to active labor.

LOTS of Braxton Hicks.  How many times did I say, "this is IT".   And then poof....after an hour of continuous contractions they disappeared.  WTH!?!?

Was that my mucus plug???   Can you loose it twice?   What about three times??   (I called the doctor on all three of these occasions...she thought I was slightly off my rocker.)

You probably have done everything possible to get baby out.
I walked my basement and did lunges for an hour straight.  I ate eggplant.  I ate spicy food (hello heart burn).  I drank some gross, special tea.  I did the deed that got me here in the first place.  Unfortunately for me, with baby #2, none of the above worked.   Baby was on her own time.

Patience.

Labor can be loooong and painful.  I have yet to meet someone who did not have a painful labor.  You may choose to use drugs.  (I certainly did!) Or you may choose to do it all natural.  (Rock Star!)

When you have finally reached 9 1/2 centimeters your nurse will let you start pushing.  NEWS FLASH:  At least in my experience...the NURSE is your B.F.F.  She will guide you through the whole process.  Your doctor will come in to check your progress a few times and then again to catch baby as she is on her way out.
Your nurse will be your saving grace....be nice!

And ta-da!!!!   Just like that-You are a Mommy!

Labor/Delivery was the easy part...now brace yourself for Welcoming Baby!!

  1. LOL Love this post....unfortunatley the "ta da" moment was not as graceful for me.....It was 2 solid hours of pushing, brokeN blood vessels in my face and Ash was delivered with forceps (salad spoons). Then I was finally able to say
    "TA DAAAAAA".

  2. So, kill me or not, you asked for it! My labor story was crazy and not normal at all. My husband came home from second shift and heard that pedicures induce labor, I was supposed to get one the next day with a friend but he was too excited to wait and wanted to be a daddy then! So, he came home and gave me a 45 MINUTE FOOT MASSAGE! That's right ladies, husband of the year! I was 2 days away from my due date and I was in heaven!! Welp, he conked out and an hour later at 1:47am I started having contractions!!! He did a good job!! I waited an hour before waking him up and he was so excited, he called the nurse and she told us to go to the hospital. He looked more excited than I was and it was adorable! I wish I had it on tape! We got to the hospital and OF COURSE as soon as I walk in the doors my contractions stopped. So, after they checked me and asked me a trillion questions, they told me that I was dilated but wasn't in enough pain to stay.... (what the heck does that even mean?!?!?! I was almost tempted to lie and start screaming....but I didn't). We got back home around 5am and OF COURSE what happens when I walk in the door, HELLO CONTRACTIONS! I decided I was going to look decent for my pictures so I showered, did my hair, paid the bills, went to McDonalds and ate the left side of the menu and stopped by my parents to check on the pup. I took about 20 steps down the street and my dad and husband were coaching me on how to breathe. We got to the hospital again around 11:30, they broke my water at 12 and said I wouldn't have baby Kylie Ava until at LEAST 5pm. hahahaha, I got my epidural around 2pm and started feeling some "pressure" (had to take the biggest poop of my life) and kept hitting the Epidural Drip over and over again until the nurse came in and checked me again, I had jumped from 4cm-9cm in 10 minutes and Kylie Ava was crowning.......they called the doctor, who was not even at the hospital and I waited the LONGEST 20 minutes of my life feeling like I had to poo the whole time and screaming at my husband why it was taking them so long!!! But, I had Kylie Ava at 4:59pm......talk about good timing. I pushed twice and she was out :))))

    2. The best part of this whole story was that a woman pulled up to our neighbors house at 3am when we left the first time and when we came back two hours later her car was gone.....late night booty call anyone?!? Hahaha I couldn't help but laugh
