Did you have the baby blues after your baby was born??
After my first baby was born I did not experience the baby blues. I had quite the opposite, actually. I was on a high. I was elated. I could not put my son down. Literally. Not even to make dinner, go to the restroom, take a shower, or respond to an email. Looking back, I actually think it was abnormal.
After my daughter, I was an emotional wreck. I could not put my finger on anything in particular; I was just a mess. I cried a lot. I didn't feel like I could do anything up to par. I felt like I was letting my son down, my new baby girl down, my husband down, and myself down. I had my daughter two weeks before Christmas so I felt like I had all of these expectations to live up to and I didn't take the time to look out for myself.
Several months after having my babies my emotions worked themselves out. My hormones went back to normal and I looked back thinking, "oh boy...I probably needed therapy during those three months!!"
Baby Blues:
According to www.babycenter.com up to 80% of woman experience the baby blues for a few weeks after giving birth. Woman may feel weepy, emotional, and get upset over things they usually would not. New moms are typically exhausted, your hormone levels drop, and your breasts become engorged with milk; all physical realities that can contribute to the baby blues.
Emotionally, you are worried about your baby's well being, transitioning to motherhood, and adjusting to a new routine.
None of these physical or emotional changes will come easy to most moms. A new baby is relying on you for goodness sakes!!!! A support system from family and friends, rest, and time will help ease the baby blues within a few weeks.
The baby blues are not fun. My advice to all new moms out there....Take time for yourself!! Take a rest. I promise, you are worth it!
And soon...you will be LOVE this new life!!!
